There was a time when people could not do anything about losing hair and just had to accept it. With advances in medical science, however, many kinds of hair fall treatments have been created. While many of these treatments are drastic (hair transplantation), some only require regular use of a certain product (hair loss shampoos). The treatment a person suffering from loss of hair receives depends on what is causing it. For people who have male pattern baldness, hair transplantation is the recommended treatment. For early sufferers, however, drugs for hair treatment are the recommended option. Although these hair loss drugs are proven to be effective at treating the situation, most of them only work well for people suffering early loss. Nevertheless, this does not subtract from their efficacy.
Two of the drugs used in treating this situation are Minoxidil and Finasteride. Minoxidil is an over the counter drug that people put in their hair twice a day. Although it has been proven to be very effective, it can take 12 weeks before hair regrowth becomes apparent. Some of the drugs side effects include: unwanted hair growth on parts of one’s body.
Finasteride is used in treating male pattern baldness. Many people who take this drug find that their rate of hair fall is slowed done by it. In some cases, hair regrowth does happen. Unfortunately, Finasteride can have serious side effects. Finasteride’s side effects include: a weakened sex drive, anxiety and depression, and abnormal ejaculation. In worse cases, taking the drug can cause a person to develop a type of prostate cancer that grows really fast.
Hair loss drugs are proven to be very effective treatment. However, the kinds of problem that they can treat are limited. Luckily for sufferers, there are other treatments that they can avail of. These treatments may involve hair transplantation, the use of shampoos that prevents losing hair, or even low level light therapy. For those whose situation can’t be treated right now, they will just have to wait for a few more years – many researchers continue to study many experimental treatments that show promise. Hopefully, some of these treatments will be further developed and become widely available. The field of treatment certainly has a bright future; in time, it will probably become a thing of the past.
